1999 Collective Saves Utah 3.5 Million Dollars Per Year

How did we arrive at this number? 1999 Collective aims to help stabilize young adults in the years after exiting Utah’s foster care system so that they gain impactful employment and/or education, transition to a happy and healthy adulthood, and averting long-term dependence on public assistance.

A single youth who transitions off of medicaidSNAP and rental assistance would save Utah $23,806 a year in 2029, accounting for inflation. Multiplied by the 190 youth that we served this year, the state would save $3,574,850 in a single future year (2029). This does not include savings from averting other costly outcomes often associated with foster care, such as incarceration and early parenthood.

An investment into our target annual operating budget of $500,000 is projected to save the state of Utah $3.5 million per year. This means 1999 Collective programs have a return on investment of 600%. An investment into 1999 Collective not only means millions of dollars of future savings, but also a Utah with happier and healthier adults, families, and children.

Our Impact Report

"1999 Collective has been a huge help for my entire college experience. They helped me get a laptop to do my schoolwork. Offered to take me to/from school when I was unable to drive from an injury. They have helped me find and apply for scholarships and FAFSA year after year. Found funding and a tutor to help me get caught up on the 6+ years of school I missed due to child abuse. All while coming with me to advisory appointments to make sure I’m on track and taking all the right courses for my degree. The assistance and resources provided by 1999 collective have played a major role in my academic and personal life. "
